It is quarter to 2 in the morning on November 1. For the past couple of years, Halloween has been one giant catastrophe for me.

Let me explain….

The day started out with me spending 4 hours trying to get my printer to work. I still do not have an answer on that one.

Then, later in the day I set out to see The Hard Lessons. This is a band that I enjoy quite a bit. I’ve seen them several times since moving back to Michigan from Alaska. They’re from Michigan as well, and we know people in common, although I had never met them.

I thought that they were headlining the show tonight and I got to the place at what I thought, was just in time for them to take the stage. Yeah… they weren’t headlining. I totally missed their set!!! I was super bummed!

I had already been invited to the party after the show that they were supposed to be going to. I had never been to this place so I called the host and got directions. I was trying to remember them when I saw Koran, a member of The Hard Lessons. I went up to her, introduced myself, and asked if she was going to the party. She said yes, but she needed directions.

I told her what I had been told… except I goofed up on one MAJOR detail. But I didn’t even realize I messed up until I left the show and was driving to the party myself. I told her to take a left on Court, and it should be a right. I have no idea why I said that. Court is a one way. You can’t take a left. But hey - I had been in Alaska for a long time and I got messed up.

After I realized that mistake, I didn’t even want to go to the party (I was super embarrassed).. but I went. And when I got there, the host told me the band had talked about the horrible directions I gave them. At that point, I was waaay too embarrassed to stay and face them. I left and went home. (I’m going to email them an apology when I get done writing this).

I didn’t think anything could top last year. But, yeah, this year does.

See, last year, my friends got married on Halloween. I thought it would be clever to dress up as a 60s housewife who tried to commit suicide and failed. I went to the salon and got my hair teased up, wore a 60s dress, big fake pearl earrings and bracelet, and put bandages on my wrists with fake blood seeping through.

When I got to the reception, I was busy talking to all the peole I hadn’t seen in years. (remember, I lived in Alaska for a looong time.) I ended up being the only one in a costume, but I was too busy having fun to even care. That is, until my sister told me that people were asking her what happened to me. Apparently, there were A LOT of people who thought it was real.

I honestly do not understand why they thought it was real… I mean, do I tease my hair up all the time? NO. Do I wear 60s style clothes all the time? NO. Do I wear big fake pearls everyday? NO. Would I really walk around with blood seeping out of my bandages if I had real wounds? NO.

But, alas, I was the talk of the reception that night.

My sister and some of my friends are still laughing about it……

Giving a band that I like horrible directions is a lot more humiliating.

(I’m really sorry about that, Hard Lessons!)

If you have read any part of this site, you’ll know that I am the founder of Indie Biz Chicks. If you Google me, you’ll see that I already have a nice-sized Google Footprint. You may be wondering “why are you starting this blog?”

Well, there are a few reasons. For one, I am going to be adding more “Chicks” sites into the mix (more news on all of that later). For the past two years, since launching my site, I’ve built my whole brand around Indie Biz Chicks. But now it’s time to broaden that brand a bit… and so I want to make sure people know more about Crissy Herron than just Indie Biz Chicks.

Plus, I’ll be able to write about more than just business stuff on this blog. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m NOT going to stop writing about business stuff. I absolutely love talking about business-related items and get a charge off of brainstorming with someone, helping them create a marketing plan, a publicity campaign, etc.

But there are times when I feel like writing about the cookies I made with my nephews or whatever crazy adventure I’ve recently been on. This blog will encompass all parts of my life - business and otherwise!
